ACP Ministerial Meeting on Climate Change November 2012

ACP Ministerial Meeting on Climate Change

The 18th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP18) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and the 8th session of the Conference of the Parties serving as the Meeting of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol (CMP8) took place from 26 November to 7 December 2012 at the Qatar National Convention Centre in Doha, Qatar.

As in previous years, the Secretariat of the African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) Group of States organized a major event in the run-up to the COP18 to allow the ACP Member States to prepare for the international climate negotiations in a coordinated way.

The ACP Ministerial Meeting on Climate Change, held in Brussels from 7 to 9 November 2012, gathered Ministers and ACP senior climate change officials from the respective regions and groups (Africa, Caribbean, Pacific, SIDS).

The first two days were dedicated to deepening the understanding of the key issues in the UNFCCC negotiations and to provide comments on the draft ACP position paper on the Doha Conference on Climate Change (COP18).

In continuation, on the third day, ACP Ministers discussed the ACP position paper and adopted a common position of ACP concerns for the Conference negotiations

This event which brought together around 85 participants (officials and other stakeholders), significantly contributes to the creation of synergies establishing a common understanding and constructive interactions between the five regional components of the GCCA Intra-ACP Programme. It also resulted in facilitating a common voice of ACP member states.
